Why most people didn't enjoy gyms spaces.

Why some people enjoy the gym environment.

The stairs visually look better than they did before and create a visceral experience of an everyday space which makes people interested by the designer's playing with the concept of the steps being individual piano keys.
Overtime the stairs become used more a more because of the introduction of ‘fun theory’. The stairs design look and sound like a piano. There is no improvement to the design function; however, it has improved people’s emotional and behavioural response. |
Experience design is designing an "experience" for the users of a space to generate a connection through the systems and amenities planned within the design. The main part of experience design is planning tangible and non tangible services to function successfully. These services are physical (tangible: materials, colours, layout) and relational (non tangible: users of the space and employees) aspects of commercial spaces.
Retail and hospitality settings are very successful in the way they create experiences within a space, whereby service elements are designed to enhance the overall experience and gain customer loyalty. (Pullman, 2004) |
For example, Target has redesigned a number of their stores using a different interior design approach in terms of the layout and services providing a different experience for people when they shop in Target's stores.
Introducing other services enhances the retail experience of the customers, as well as providing income and jobs. For example, the cafe in Target. The spaces have been cleverly divided up into categories while still maintaining that open floor plan. Each of these spaces provides a practical purpose and an element of identity. (Fig 3 & 4) |
