To design a gym for people who don't enjoy fitness or like exercising in gym environments. Public spaces should be designed for a wider variety of users; currently gyms are only designed for people who enjoy fitness and aren't intimidated by the environment. Hypothesis: I believe that people who don’t like the gym are uncomfortable with the environment and atmosphere of the space. I believe the serious nature and the feeling of being watched or judged can lack motivation in some people. People who enjoy the gym environment feel a connection with that type of community and are comfortable with that particular environment. Either they work in the sports industry or like-minded fit people who are motivated to keep fit.
Analysis of Gyms Emotional design plays a vital role in our response to space; I have discovered the various emotions felt within gym environments which shape our perceptions, values, behaviours. The chart below displays some of my observations.
